I bought this to replace my 9 year old first generation macbook. The
reason I chose this was because I very rarely used my macbook in the
last 9 years that I had it. I have been using my work computer most of
the time. My macbook is still up and running. However, the OS and all
other software are now outdated. There are sites that I cannot get too
because of that and I also fear that it is no longer secure to be
accessing important documents using it. I loved all things apple but
just could not justify buying another macbook in case I end up not using
it a lot. So I looked for other options.
All I really want is to be able to do browsing/ surfing, emails and light work. My criteria were that it should have the Technical specs that will be good enough for me to do those things, lightweight for traveling and affordable. If I have to spend close to $1,000, then I will just go get myself another mac. I don’t see any point of buying a windows PC if the price is equal to a Mac.
Out of the box, the computer looks good. I love how thin and lightweight it is. The color looks professional unlike HP Stream 11’s candy colored laptops (which might be geared more towards the younger crowd). Windows 8.1 takes some getting used to. I must say, Apple’s user experience is still way better than Windows. But Windows 8.1 is not bad. I like that it comes with Windows Defender. After installing Office and uninstalling the bloatware that comes with the computer, I was good to go.
So far, this unit has met expectations. I am hoping that it will last me a couple of years. I have only had it a few weeks so can’t vouch for durability / quality. If this thing lasts, then maybe I will be more open and consider other higher end Windows PC. If it fails to last, I will definitely be going back to Apple. I know their quality and durability is never a question in their products.
